A Georgia native, David grew up in Lincoln County, near Augusta, Georgia. While there, he was a member of the high-school’s state champion debate team. He attended Berry College in Rome, GA where he majored in Government.
Prior to law school, he interned with a local law firm. “I was blessed to grow up around some very skilled trial lawyers. In a small town, you don’t have the luxury of specialization. If someone comes in needing help, you help them. You have to learn as much as possible as quickly as possible, make sure you know the facts and the applicable law better than anyone in the room, and then find a way to tell your client’s story to a jury of strangers in a way that they’ll understand.”
In law school, David joined the Georgia State University Mock Trial team and interned with the Georgia Innocence Project. In his third year of law school, he interned with The Dallas Law Firm (now “Dallas & Gracey”) — a prestigious litigation firm that has represented clients including James Brown.
David has spent more than a decade navigating the twists and turns of the insurance industry to bring help to people that need it.
After beginning his career as a trial attorney, David soon got hired by a startup in Georgia to serve as their internal counsel. While there, he worked with insurance adjusters, doctors, and attorneys on both sides to fulfill the company’s mission of ensuring that injured workers received appropriate care.
“People would get seriously hurt at work and then be prescribed a high dosage of opioids for months on end with no long term plan. Then something would happen — their insurance would deny coverage, or the doctor would retire and sell their practice, and no new doctor would take these patients because of the meds they were on or because they were worried about the insurance denying coverage — and now these people who got hurt by no fault of their own were abandoned.”
As the company grew, David developed training for nurses, adjusters, attorneys, and even government regulators to help improve practices and change policy pertaining to medical coverage of injured workers.
From there, he became General Counsel of a company at the intersection of the pharmacy and insurance industries, building its legal department, drafting and negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
David understands that knowing the law — and using every part of it — is essential to getting results. Upon joining The Awad Law Firm, David was assigned his first case and immediately noticed an error by the insurer’s attorney. He used that error to obtain a default judgment and collect over $350,000.00 for his clients
David is a Georgia native and spends his free time traveling, spending time with family, and exploring the waterfalls of Appalachia
