An honest answer on when you need help after a wreck, when you may not, and how to tell the difference for free.

Not always.
That is a strange thing for a Georgia car accident lawyer to say, but it is the truth, and I would rather start with the truth than with a sales pitch. Some people who call my office do not need me. Some people who think they do not need me need me more than anyone. My job on that first call is to help you figure out which one you are.
I have been practicing in Georgia since 2012. In that time, I have learned that the question "Do I need a lawyer?" is really three smaller questions. Were you hurt? Who was at fault? And is the insurance company treating you fairly? Let me walk you through each one.
If your wreck was a fender bender, nobody was hurt, and the only thing damaged was your bumper, you can often handle that claim yourself. The at fault driver's insurance company will usually send an appraiser, write an estimate, and pay for the repair or a rental car. If they are paying fairly and promptly, you may not need anyone standing between you and them.
I tell callers this all the time. A property damage only claim is usually something you can manage with a phone, a few photos, and some patience. If the insurance company starts low balling your repair estimate or refuses to pay for a rental, call us and we will point you in the right direction, even if we do not take the case.
The picture changes the moment someone is hurt.
Injury claims are where insurance companies fight the hardest, because that is where the real money is. An adjuster may call you within a day or two, sound friendly, and ask for a recorded statement. They may offer a quick check before you even know how badly you are injured. Once you sign a release, that claim is closed forever.
You should strongly consider talking to a lawyer if any of these are true:
Georgia's minimum liability coverage is only $25,000 per person. A single night in the hospital and a few months of therapy can blow past that number. Knowing how to find other coverage, like your own uninsured motorist policy, is part of what we do.
Here is something I have seen many times. A client walks away from a wreck, says "I'm okay," and goes home. Two days later the headaches start. A week later they cannot focus at work.
One client, K.B., looked perfectly fine on the outside after a crash. Advanced imaging later showed a subtle brain injury. That case resolved for $625,000. If K.B. had accepted the first offer that came while she still "felt fine," she would have been left alone with an injury she did not yet understand.
Adrenaline is a powerful painkiller. Some injuries hide for days. A free conversation with a lawyer costs you nothing and protects your options while your body tells you the full story. Recent changes to Georgia law also make early, careful medical documentation even more important, so getting checked out quickly is wise either way.
When you call or text my office, a real person answers, day or night. We ask what happened, how you are feeling, and what the insurance company has said. Then we tell you plainly whether we think you need a lawyer.
Sometimes the answer is no. And even then, we do not just hang up.
Every single person who calls us receives a package in the mail, whether we take their case or not. It tells them they were treated with respect and invites them back if they ever need help with a car accident. One man who called us did not have a case that fit our practice. A few days later he received that package. He called back and insisted on paying for an hour of our time because he felt so cared for. He told me, "You killed me with this."
I did not do it to get paid. I did it because in martial arts, you bow to everyone who steps on the mat, not just the ones who win. Respect is not a reward you earn by hiring me. It is how you should be treated, period.
You do not need a lawyer for every car accident. You likely do need one if you are hurt, if fault is disputed, or if an insurance company is pushing you to settle fast. The only way to know for sure is to ask someone who will tell you the truth, even when the truth is "you've got this on your own."
